Softball championship games
World Cup decided today, while
Russia defeats Czechs in Europe

While the World Cup of Softball IX is still underway – championship game set for today, Sunday, July 13 – in Irvine, California, the European Softball Federation (ESF) held its own championship game yesterday, Saturday, July 12, in Dupnitsa, Bulgaria.

European ESF games
The ESF has been around since 1976 when it was created for “promoting and developing softball in Europe”.

AT THE LARGER WORLD CUP COMPETITION, the USA team is undefeated, playing at a 6-0 clip against rivals, but Canada is right behind the red, white and blue with a 5-1 record, having lost so far only to the Americans in a close 5-3 game. The title game will be contested today.

AT THE ESF CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, it was a slugfest that went into extra innings between the Czech Republic and Russian national teams. At the end of seven, the Czech scored a run in the top of the eighth only to watch the game slip away 14-13 when Russia batted for a walk off win. CLICK HERE for the box score.
