LOPSIDED GAMES

Three hits w/ homer
Nina Marcano
records big day

It was freshman #18 catcher Nina Marcano's day.

It started in the first inning of the first game of Saturday's, April 12's, Wesley Wolverines versus Christopher Newport Captains doubleheader. Nina quickly announced to startled Christopher Newport fans that Wesley was in town by slamming a two run homer over the center field fence.

An inning later, the Wolverines were ahead 3-0 and the Captain's first base coach, his brow furrowed, was shouting anxiously to his team ranked 14th in the nation – “We got a game!

Admittedly, much unraveled from there. But not Nina. She batted 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored via the aforementioned home run.

Below are photos from the day's games. Apologies for no picture of Sarah Saunders pitching. Despite a dozen photos taken of her in the circle, the camera settings were just off for these shots. Sarah came on in relief in the second game to do truly yeoman’s work in mopping up a lopsided contest.

Actual home run swing captured above as Nina sends the softball far over the Christopher Newport center fielder's head and out of the park!

#9 eventually would put a dent in the metal Virginia Health Services sign, apparently not realizing that the fence restrains her from chasing down home runs!
