Mouth guards available
from team athletic trainer
Pictured here, Wolverine pitcher Lily Engel is having her bite molded for a mouth guard, compliments of Wesley's Sports Medicine staff, prior to the season's first softball games.
Lily is acting on, she says, much appreciated advice from fellow teammate pitcher Lindsay Siok. Players have praised these custom Wesley guards as “better” than any they have tried before.
It has been argued that a softball pitcher is more than twice as likely to get hit by a line drive than her counterpart in baseball. This is reasoned based on rubber to plate distance, the softball's larger surface area and a fastpitch pitcher's tendency to step toward the batter with an open stance when delivering the ball.
Regardless, both Lily's and Lindsay's beautiful smiles should be well protected this season.
