SCHOLAR'S DAY

On Scholar's Day
Samantha Mahoski shares
California Bay Country trip

Samantha Mahoski
Last Tuesday, April 15, sophomore #25 1B Samantha Mahoski (Schenectady, NY) hit an academic grand slam at Wesley College's annual Scholar's Day, where presentations and recitations throughout the campus showcase student expertise in a variety of fields. It is an event that brings the entire Wesley College community together to celebrate scholarly endeavors.

Samantha participated with a PowerPoint presentation on the California Bay Country. She was joined by a fellow student and co-presenter Kourtney Lake. Her Wesley Wolverine softball teammates showed up in full force to demonstrate their enthusiastic support.

Last semester, Samantha and the Wesley History Department visited California's Napa and Sonoma Valleys and the cities of San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and Monterrey. On Scholar's Day, Samantha explained what she had learned on the trip, specifically giving an in-depth analysis of the similarities and differences between each West Coast bay “country” as well as her insight into the diverse history and culture of California.

Samantha plays a near perfect first base, while more than excelling in the classroom. That's the beauty of Division III sports' focus. Taking precedence over batting average, fielding percentage, or even games won are the college courses, where individual learning, good grades, and ultimately “the degree” are paramount. It's play hard, but study harder. Samantha is a role model that balances both extremely well.
