CAC EXPANDS

CAC expands
Wesley schedule adds
new conference teams

The Wesley Wolverines compete in the highly competitive Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). It was formed in 1989 among a half dozen four-year, co-educational institutions in close geographic proximity with similar educational and athletic philosophies. Over the years, a couple colleges have left (Catholic University, Gallaudet), while others have joined up (Salisbury, Frostburg State).

BIG NEWS  for this softball season is that the CAC has reshaped itself once more by
adding three universities to its sports schedules. The new members are Christopher Newport (CNU), Southern Virginia and Penn State-Harrisburg who will now compete against the league's softball squads from Mary Washington, York (PA), Salisbury, Frostburg State, and Wesley. (Two other CAC schools – Marymount (VA) and St. Mary's (MD) – do not field softball teams.)

CNU and Penn State Harrisburg are immediately eligible for conference CAC championships and D-III tournament opportunities. However – I believe I have this right!?? – Southern Virginia, as a NCAA Division III provisional member, will not be eligible for CAC postseason competition until next year (2014-15).

The CAC softball season begins this weekend with Salisbury doubleheaders in Raleigh (NC) on Saturday and Sunday, while CNU kicks off their season with two games on Saturday.

Our own Wesley Wolverines will be the only other CAC member in a contest over the weekend with our doubleheader on Sunday in Washington DC. The rest of the CAC will be playing games by Saturday, March 1, at the latest.
