World Cup of Softball IX
competition begins tonight
As most know, softball was voted out of the Olympics after the 2008 international competition.
Almost every year since then, softball players from around the world have gathered for their own world championship program.

That tradition continues tonight!
The World Cup of Softball IX begins this evening, Monday, July 7th at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, California.
Philippines, Venezuela, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America have all sent teams, making this the largest participation in the tournament's history. (Puerto Rico also has a national team, but withdrew from the games just last week.)
The championship is not a "lock" for the United States. The USA has been victorious every year, except 2005 and 2013 when Japan won it all.
Team USA will play Mexico this evening (Monday) in an exhibition game at 7:00 PM (Pacific Daylight Time).
